Creation vs. Evolution
The question posed was what do I believe in?
Like most people, I would say I believe in God. But again the concept of God is a very subjective thing and differs from one individual to another. Culture, history, family friends, education and church have each done their best to impinge their own idea of god and provided some element to my own conceptualization of it.
I think of God as the creator of the universe.
Now, because of Buddhist influence, I believe I am the creator of my own universe and therefore by my definition, I am God. (I can almost hear the gasps) This concept is not intended to exclude or lower the multitudes of life forms that share existence with me.
I believe that each and every one of those self-aware beings are also creators of their own universe, and by my definition gods unto themselves. You’ve heard of the concept that you create your own reality. This is the same concept taken to an absolute extreme.
The concept is easily explained in quantum and string theories. The universe presents itself to each individual in accordance to their own viewpoint.
While considering these ideas for this article I remembered how our idea of the universe keeps expanding and eventually will lead to places we probably can’t imagine right now.
I also thought, if we go back and see how the world becomes smaller and smaller as we go back in history.
So how does this work, if I am god (to myself) who created things before I was born? The easiest response is that someone else created it but that really doesn’t allow for accepting absolute responsibility which is one of the keys to enlightenment.
The concept is very simple, but also very hard conceive.
As god, you don’t just create your present, you also create your future and your past.
You are right now creating your past. It didn’t exist until you created it. In as much as we are accepting our creating of the expanding universe we also must accept that we are also creating that portion of the universe that is before our own birth.
As I said, not an easy concept to understand.
This concept is what allows me to justify my belief in both evolution and creation at the same time. We as creators of our universes conceived it and created it, in our past.
In as much as I truly believe that the world before the Vikings discovered America, was actually flat. I believe that the bones of dinosaurs did not exist, until we set out to find them.
Thereby, creating our own evolution.
